Profile

Brad at Bristlecone Pine Forest, California
Biographical Sketch
I began easel-painting in 1986, inspired by a painting trip through
Grand Canyon National Park. At the start I painted in oils, but
comfortable in a variety of artist’s mediums, I soon expanded into
watercolor, pastels and acrylics. Designated Master Pastelist by the
Pastel Society of America in 1992 my work has been featured in
American Artist, Pastel Artist International and The Pastel Journal
magazines. My work and techniques are featured in many books,
including: The Best of Pastel 2; The Best of Drawing and Sketching;
Acrylic Painting Techniques, and Painting the Many Moods of Light.
I’ve earned exhibitions in Yosemite National Park, as
Artist-in-Residence, and at Grand Canyon National Park. My paintings
of railroad subjects have been featured in Railfan & Railroad
magazine, exhibited in the California State Railroad Museum, and
sponsored in exhibition by Amtrak, and used to illustrate the music
of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Roger Miller and
Waylon Jennings on the music CD Between the Rails: America's Train
Songs.
Notable golf holes and golf luminaries are also among my subjects.
My 1992 painting On the Tee with Jack Nicklaus at Bel-Air appears in
the book Bel-Air Country Club: A Living Legend.
From high school, in the mid-70’s through the mid-80's I worked as
an illustrator, graphic designer, cartoonist and portrait painter. I
attended Pitzer College on a scholarship and a grant, and received a
degree from California State University, Fullerton. Since 1986 I
have been creating and selling artwork of subjects that interest me.
My drawing and painting versatility has brought wide-ranging
recognition, commissions, and collectors.
Commissions
I welcome assignments to create customized artwork. Subjects for
commissioned paintings can take almost any form: individual or group
